CAPTCHA hasn’t been useful for its supposed purpose for more than a decade. Multiple automated attempts means even a low success probability is sufficient. The most interesting CAPTCHA attacks usually involve diverting solving to humans via man-in-the-middle and compromised/partner sites (e.g. porn)
