20 years ago 90% of American adults lived in a house with a landline. Now only 25% do, and only 1% are totally dependent on a landline.

When we moved house a few years ago we were told by AT&T that they were phasing out landlines in our area because the old copper lines were in such horrible shape. We have a 'landline' but it's actually VOIP using Google Voice and one of those Obihai converter thingys.

Our landline was converted to VOIP when we changed from ATT to Xfinity. Then a few years later I migrated the number to Google Voice and now our it rings on my mobile.

I can't believe we still have a landline! It works, even in blackouts.

Truth be told, we would maintain a landline today if it weren’t inundated with robo calls. There’s a metaphor in there somewhere ..

We gave up our landline when we realized we had not gotten a voice mail on the answering machine in over a year.
