Heritage Steel recently faced a $75,000 tariff on a handle order, and Henn anticipates another bill nearing $200,000 for goods arriving this month. But the company finds steel and aluminum tariffs as potentially beneficial for business.

Because Heritage Steel makes a few large raw-material purchases each year, the company had a significant supply on hand when the first 25% steel tariffs took effect. This wasn’t a deliberate tariff strategy, Henn said, but rather a fortunate result of their workflow.
The company knows this buffer won’t last. With the next tariff bill expected to be more than double the first, Heritage Steel has raised prices across all products by about 15%.
While Henn sees the policy’s intent as good, he said what makes more sense to him is a change over a longer period of time that encourages more U.S. industry.

Heritage Steel is losing money due to tariffs increasing the costs of business. Customers are spending more money to buy the products. Tariffs are not good for businesses or consumers.
