I read a little bit of everything. I remember yours interested me because of the time slip scenario and I’ve read several books like that I’ve loved. Outlander obviously is the standout but there’s also the Time Traveler’s Wife (Audrey Niffenegger) and Kindred (Octavia Butler).

I know there’s others but can’t think of them off the top of my head. Romance is something I do occasionally but I really have to be in a mood for it.

We used Outlander as a comparison book when we were querying agents, but apropos my earlier (misguided) post, ours is not filled with hot, steamy sex. Also, we started our project long before we’d even heard of Outlander, so if it appears derivative, I’d lay blame on the collective unconscious. 😅

I wouldn’t worry too much about it appearing derivative. The comparison is more likely to help you sell books than hurt you imo. I read the blurb and said to myself “okay so this is a bit like that other book I read that I enjoyed so I’ll probably enjoy this”.

Sometimes I buy books just based on a recommendation from an author I’ve enjoyed before. Sometimes I see other people talking about a book and I know their tastes are similar enough to mine that I’ll check out whatever they’re reading. But the blurb does a lot of heavy lifting in getting me to buy.

Interesting. I guess all time-slip stories have a common core. I like them myself, also time travel novels. One of my all time favorites is H.G.Wells’ The Time Machine. If you do make it through the book I’d love to hear your honest opinion. Thanks again for giving it a try ☺️

The Time Machine was also really good. Also, Slaughterhouse Five. I’ve been thinking about that one ever since we chatted yesterday. That rates really high up there in my favorite novels list. And yes I’ll ping you when I’m done. ❤️

Vonnegut was a favourite back in the day, especially his earlier writing. I think Slaughterhouse Five was his probably best book Thanks, most appreciated. 😉
