Yeah it's a total placeholder. I guess they couldn't call it The Hoaxing Bumpkin.
All I know is that between Primal Fear, The Firm, and A Time To Kill, the mid-1990s were the absolute peak for legal thrillers with a cast going 10+ deep with talent. Also, knowing that Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, and James Van Der Beek also auditioned makes me want to see the SNL screen test parody.

The book does a much deeper dive into Aaron's upbringing and trauma he had growing up. Definitely makes the title a bit more fitting with all of that context. It's kinda glossed over in the movie.
