I share your goals but when Americans vote, it’s not about what they tell pollsters they want for themselves but what they don’t want for others, ie white supremacy. Naïveté about this grows more dangerous as the right suppresses enough votes legally to overcome its demographic disadvantage.

The US has lost international trust, likely forever, because its electorate put an enemy in the WH. Saving what’s left of its democracy requires acknowledging how deeply conservative the country that would do such a thing, twice, actually is.

No one sane does. The damage, however, especially internationally, is done. There’s still time to save the domestic situation but not if folks keep misreading just how conservative the country is.
