At no point in U.S. history would "stop talking about race" and "stop mentioning racial divisions" ever stop - or even reduce - actual racism & racial division. It would, however, have stopped abolition, the civil rights movement, - we'd still have Jim Crow laws bcse (shh don't mention them.)
