The first guy they apprehend was apparently claiming that he had done it, but it turned he was just some local gadfly with a history of getting in trouble with the police. As for the second one, no idea

But they fact they are being evasive about his physical appearence does suggest that the perprator wasn't visibily trans or an ethnic minority, otherwise they would be running with it
