Seeing ads like this on youtube is so embarrassing I wish online was more regulated and less filled to the brim with misogynistic slop advertising. This is one of the biggest and most successful websites in existence and it makes its money from unfettered filth and shit

I feel like at least 60% of ads I see online are about women being objects you can buy

(although I use ad blockers on desktop and mobile so I usually only see them within apps which may impact the 'quality' of advertising I'm exposed to)

it's additionally wild if you check to see what advertising topic they fall under. I've seen ones like what you pictured fall under "oil and gas" or "seasonal and holiday" 🫤 so the ads lie to get shown in the first place 😵‍💫

If you haven't seen the pro-genocide ads telling lies about Gaza then count yourself relatively lucky. They're horrible. There's so many scam ads on YouTube it's no wonder that they are short of legit advertisers. At least the scam ad for detoxifying foot pads with the nasty black gunk has stopped.

Ads for mobile gaming scams are often a two-for-one offer with maximum misogyny and scamminess wedged into one unskippable 20 second package. I mean, what do the legit advertisers think when they see that crap? Does Birdseye want to advertise its fish fingers on the same platform as that stuff?

80% of feed ads i've seen in the youtube app for months now has been ai generated slop about "scandals" involving german politicians with completely unrelated links, which, while not as misogynistic is just as great bc apparently youtube doesn't have any better advertisers than straight up scam ads

Trouble is that the internet is both under-regulated and overregulated. The people who want to regulate it more are not interested in blocking the scammers, misogynists and neo-Nazis. They just want to stop teenagers looking at pictures of boobs or finding out that LGBT people exist.

If they really cared about "online safety" they'd be regulating the AI chatbots out of existence but no, there's too much dirty money in AI, so got to stop that teenager looking at boobs.
