Thanks. Sting issue all good now. 2nd incident was 11 days ago. Now just trying to understand what species & their behavior. Nest is very close to our outside sitting area & back door

If this were Germany instead of California my guess would be "Erdwespen/ earth wasps" - www.obi.de/magazin/gart... (But the European wasps stings I had would first hurt a lot - only to itch a lot a day or two before being finally gone.)

I think one of 4 types found here are "visitors" from Europe, Vespula germanica. So I think they may be a gift from Germany. It would be OK if Germany would like to have them back 😂

Well, they are specially protected here, so I guess they'd be welcome (in general, not close to where they'd have a chance to sting me ;)
