This week I broke the rules and had toast with butter, 3 times: Once just butter Once butter + cinnamon sugar Once butter + orange marmalade. Which was best? π€ Probably need to try them all again to make an accurate choice π

They all sound good to me! π
Yep!
They all sound great! I love toast with just butter!
Who made those rules anyway?
Theyβre more guidelines really. No need to take them very seriously.
Because toast.
Yes!
Still undecided? Try again with crumpets π€£
π You are wise, my friend!! Ted gets back on Thur night from a conference, so maybe we will try this experiment again on the weekend
Iβve not tried the marmalade combination. Sounds yummy. Why the prohibition against toast and butter?
This was marmalade and butter on dark rye toast. Surprisingly yummy. Probably just as good to do just the marmalade but I haven't tried that. Of course, the gold standard is orange marmalade, butter on crumpet π
Looks like a more dainty English muffin. Is that what the English call English muffins?
Similar but has different texture. English muffin is more like texture of American biscuit. Crumpet is oddly smooth and just, well, different. One store here in Los Altos CA has them, sometimes. I think in UK they eat both, but I'm not sure about English muffins there. Definitely have crumpets.
I donβt even know what a crumpet is.
Hard to find in US and I don't usually bake now. It's (mostly) a British thing. Made with white flour, a thin little disk of goodness that you toast. Lots of little holes from air bubbles in the dough that tend to catch the butter (or marmalade) nicely
Ha! Excellent presentation!
Thanks. An English friend had written about enjoying her crumpets and that made us search out some and have for special occasion. This was Christmas eve 2020. Seemed like a huge thing to enjoy a special meal on a tolerably warm day
Trying for years to limit fat, carbs & calories. Not very successfully. (I cut out one thing and just add another) π
Cutting carbs is hard.
It is! I've found it even more challenging after I stopped eating meat yrs ago (just a personal thing, not a health thing) To avoid "filling the gap" with cheese & eggs, I tend to eat more full grain cereal, crackers, potatoes, pasta, occasional toast and of course the I-deserve-this-cookie(s) π
So full grain is ok? Or just more ok?
I'm no expert. I think full grain is good, but the amount does matter in terms of total calories and carbs. It's also VERY important to get lots of fiber, more than people thought, plus lots of water. And full grain has protein, so a nice choice. Also tasty. But still it's not a crumpet!
