Thanks, Marina. Tricky to get a good shot with a hand held mobile phone. But one big advantage I learned from @bsky.tdunning.com is to take photo while sky is still fairly light. Too much contrast between light reflected from moon & night sky seems to confuse cell phone camera 1/
Focus either on moon or on nearby tree branch to convince camera to do right thing. I have to reduce brightness or inc shadow setting a little to get good exposure but that may just be my Pixel phone issue My old Google Pixel 6 Pro has optical zoom to 4x but these are digital zoom going further 2/
Moon appears larger when appears near horizon or an object like a tree limb or rooftop, so that can help. And finally hold still when taking photo. I'm bad at that!! Thanks for liking these π 3/3
Thanks for taking the time to explain this to me! Can't wait to try it ππ·
Let me know how it works for you
One trick to getting a full moon against a lighter sky is to cheat by taking the picture of the moon 1-2 days before it is actually full. That means it sets earlier than the for sure full moon and is much easier to photograph.
Okay, thank you!
Yes!
These are wonderful Ellen! I love the one with traffic lights!
Thanks, Glen. I liked that one, too - turned out kind of surprising
Youβre welcome, the car lights look so cool with the moon! And from a moving car is amazing!
Beautiful, Ellen!
Thanks Becky. I'm a sucker for a full moon!
Oh wow Ellen love these photos. ππ
Thanks Pam. I'm like a little kid in candy store when I see a newly rising full moon - Always surprises me at how beautiful the moon is. I also like looking at it with binoculars. You can see a lot! π€
These are beautiful shots Ellenβs
Thanks, Kathy. Such a pretty thing to see π
I have always been fascinated by the moon. Its vast Helium-3 resources could be the solution for our ever growing energy needs.
Or breed more He3 like Helion claims they will do.
A working fusion power plant is the other half of the problem. But my Physics background makes my spider senses tingle when some company promises to create fuel which will result in a total energy-positive.
Read their literature. It actually makes sense as a two step process from raw fuel to He3 to energy production. And the way that the extract much of the energy from the compressed system makes it plausible to be energy positive with Q << 1.
My bets for a short term solution are on Thorium salt reactors. Copenhagen Atomics is the most promising company in this space. Would love to get a job offer from them ;)
Wow, what a lovely drive with that moon rising! I especially love that first one.
Thanks Andrea. I liked the moon with traffic more than I would have expected
You really had a great view there! So many times itβs hidden behind trees, buildings or cloud π
First two were just from car as Ted drove. I waited cell phone poised for each brief moment where the road turned such that we saw it unobscured by trees or hills. Last two we drove to a hilltop near our house and I hopped out long enough to snap the photos and too short to be eaten by mosquitos
*NOBODY* is too short to be eaten by mosquitos!
True.
Excellent point, says the short lady

The pics look great to me
Thanks. I always am amazed at how beautiful the moon is!
It really is! π π
