🤝 architecture education in the early 90s (so dark)
My ugrad intro course to Arch in early 90’s was a large multi-disciplinary lecture class, the intro speaker polled the students for majors & when the arch students raised their hand, he literally cackled & after he stopped laughing, said “I can’t believe you all think you’re going to get jobs”
This was not close to worst anti-architecture message I received. Incredibly proud that I worked/succeeded in architecture, especially as a woman There were many downturns, recessions, misogyny & other hurdles but I definitely proved that guy wrong & worked to support/mentor others in the industry
i discovered this in 3rd year and it sort of changed the trajectory of my education (along with Lefebvre's Production of Space and Tafuri's Sphere and the Labyrinth)
