I spent a while in the 70s and 80s at a "special school" in MA for autistic people that promised my mom they'd make me "not autistic." I still have scars from the electrocutions, and still deal with the phobias, depression and anxiety caused by the long periods of seclusion and "silent treatments.".
I'm deeply sorry they did that to you. You deserved compassionate care, not torture to make you "normal." I can't even imagine how awful that was for you to endure.
