I don’t think there is necessarily a true version of a human activity, and religion is a human activity. If there were a true form of Christianity, you folks wouldn’t constantly be schisming.
Personally, I'd say true Christianity is following the words of Christ himself. A true Christian should prioritize the Gospels and books written by actual Apostles, before books written by Paul and other authors, or the Old Testament.
Christ's teachings were more about love and charity and kindness than the hate and bigotry and strict rules of the Old Testament. How can somebody call themselves "Christian" if they disregard the teachings of the person the religion is named after?
Well, that just tells me how you were taught to read Tanakh. (Not well.) All the nice things Hashem does, all the merciful things, and the total absence of sending evildoers to hell for perpetual conscious torment. That seems pretty nice to me.
I admit I've only read the Christian version of the Old Testament, and not the Jewish or Muslim versions. In the Christian version; God hates women, gays, foreigners, and anybody who does not worship him. That's what MAGA Christians take from the Bible, not the stuff Jesus preached.
That's not to say that I do not respect the Jewish or Muslim religions. I know that they see good in God as well. I'm just talking about Christians here, and which ones are truly following his religion vs which are only using religion as an excuse to hate.
You really have been told how to read Tanakh in a way that villainized it, so that Jesus comes across as loving. But the commandment that is repeated the most in the entire text is to treat the stranger in your midst with respect and to not abuse them.
That’s your opinion. But Jesus destroyed an innocent fig tree by cussing it out because he was hangry (an explicit sin, btw) and assaulted innocent people assisting pilgrims with a weapon. Also he said he would divide families. Not exactly good guy behavior from where I stand.
Nobody is perfect. He also had his flaws. I don't remember the story of him attacking people or dividing families though. In general, he is described as a pretty nice guy, who encouraged selflessness--the antithesis of Trump. So I don't think a Trump supporter could be a true Christian.

No. The reason people say they are 'fake Christians' is because they are aggressively acting in opposition to Christ's teachings. And certain denominations believe you get into heaven if you believe in Jesus BUT others believe it is your behaviour & intentions that determine your place in heaven.
I argue that the teachings of Jesus aren’t inerrant and contradict other teachings, to say nothing of the narratives and laws of the rest of the Bible. There is no divine revelation that wraps it all up into a single correct form.
But any premise concluded to in earnest is authentic, even if it is unethical. I’m Jewish. We have passages in Tanakh that are very much abhorrent and we know it, like the Amalek narrative. That doesn’t mean it isn’t part of the text.
I don’t expect to persuade you, and I don’t have any interest in telling Christians they have to give up anything. But I approach Christianity as a sociological phenomenon first because it is a fairly rational approach, and I will never look at it from the inside.
But real Christianity that is in line with centuries of precedent has caused me and my communities massive trauma, and I have zero time for someone saying “well it doesn’t count as Christian”. Christian is not a synonym for good or correct person, no matter how you have been socialized to hear it.

I don’t think Jesus’s teachings are all that great a model to follow. They are often contradictory, they have been transcribed and redacted with agitprop in mind, they are plagiarized from many of his elder peers, and I cannot express the trauma they have inflicted on my communities and others.
I know that very few Christians have had the seminary and academic training and scrutiny to have a truly open and informed discussion on biblical authorship and redaction. It’s not a thing that clergy are told to teach laypeople.
