one and then the other! it's a terrible prioritization but a necessary one. i think it's also a natural progression since if we can build the political power to stop the guns, we'll have the political power to fund public schools better, hopefully helping with the phone thing

communication? like, would you want your kid to be able to reach you in a crisis, potentially giving them an opportunity to send a message that might be their last? hell, my partner at the CDC only got confirmation around what was happening with the shooting because of her phone.

That’s an emotional consideration, not a practical one. And an emotional consideration that is so unlikely to happen that it does not outweigh the very real deleterious effect that smartphones have on education.

emotional considerations are practical considerations, and unfortunately it's not unlikely enough so it's gotta be the priority.
