This Red-shouldered Hawk hangs around the neighborhood keeping the worm population under control. #birds

Top two-thirds of the square frame is a grass background. An asphalt path runs horizontally below the grass and then a thin band of green grass borders the bottom of the frame. Centered in the photo is a juvenile Red-shouldered Hawk with an earthworm dangling from its beak. The hawk is facing forward, the crown of its head prominent. It is mostly brown, mottled with lighter plumage. Both legs are full and pale yellow. Just above its beak there is a whitish circle that is bright against the brown.
