My apartment caught fire tonight in the kitchen. My cat and I are safe (thanks to LCFD for hurling out the floor-level window to save him from traffic) but I wouldn’t say we are okay. My apartment complex has placed us in a furnished show unit for a few days.
I had to leave most everything behind because it is covered in smoke and extinguisher dust. Managed my backpack and a few bathroom things and clothes for a few days.
I have insurance but the report won’t be ready until Monday according to the FD. No idea when or how I will be able to replace or recover my clothes, bedding, sofa, kitchen stuff.
I haven’t eaten and I’m too freaked out to drive. I have $60 to my name until financial aid disburses the week after Labor Day. All my food got ruined. I’m stressed beyond belief and my grist hurts from screaming and smoke.
Very grateful to be alive and to have my cat. Have called out of work tomorrow and need a shower and to figure out getting food. I’ve only been in my apartment two weeks. I don’t know the complex really well.
Anyway this has been my traumatic moment for the semester. First week of grad school? Piece of fucking cake 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

And thank you. I’ve got forty bucks to my name and my partner is stretched because he is fronting my September rent AND his daughter is moving this weekend. I’m lucky to have a $500 deductible but that $500 has to come up front. So stressful.
Financial aid is like seven days away. The timing couldn’t be worse.
I’m in the apartment right now and don’t even know where to begin cleaning. I need to wait for the apartment company to hire people to clean but IDK when that will be. I thought I’d be okay staying here and boarding Cisco but now my eyes and lungs are kinda tired so probably not.

I’m hoping my brain will get tired and let me sleep after my shower in this weird place that is my not-home. Cisco Kitty seems to feel pretty comfy here though, and for that I’m glad.
