Anyone have experience getting fire smoke odor out of plastics? I’ll consult Reddit as well. My mitigation company has said most plastic is considered unsalvageable after a fire. This includes things like my countertop ice maker, my rice cooker, and the lids to my Owala and Stanley pieces.

I believe them! But also wonder if there’s another solution I could try to make myself feel better besides having to trash it all in a landfill and replace it. Got that guilt that regular consumers get which corporations who waste millions of times what I do could never feel.

I have no solution, but I am so, so sorry you're going through this, especially right now.

Thank you. I keep thinking it’s no big deal, then realize I’m not breathing. Not just the loss, but the memory of the event and my cat’s eyes as he dug his claws into my neck for a good half an hour, trying to figure out what was happening.

I guess one way in which past me took care of future me is by slowly eliminating a lot of the unnecessary plastic from my world. And for my Stanley tumbler and Owala bottle — I name them because I love them — they’re metal and I can easily replace the tops alone.

I'm afraid you're out of luck. I've done some cleanup after fires. That smell never goes away.

They believe the clothing and bedding could be salvageable, which is good, but I’m not sure at what chemical cost that will come about. Might still be easier than replacing them.

Boo. It’s what Joyce from ServPro told me, and she is trustworthy, but I hate it. I just put the big puffy rainbow sticker on my plastic laundry hamper 😭 But I really don’t want to smell this stuff. it’s gross. it’s traumatizing.
