Hey #WitchSky : what are your suggestions for spaces where candles cannot be lit? I’m considering salt lamps because I dislike electric candles (and have to deal that plenty at Hanukkah already). (incidentally my house fire was not caused by candles!)

Salt lamps are great. I do use LED candles often in my practice but understand if that's not your thing. I am curious, what aspect of the candle are you looking to replicate magically? Is it a way to set sacred space? Call in spirits or deities? Is the combustion aspect important? Scent?

To set the space and call in spirits & deities. The combustion aspect *is* frequently important.

In that case I think that the salt lamps are a wonderful alternative. They have a nice ambiance that signals to our brain "something special is happening" esp. if you don't use them often at other times. The light from the bulb is a modern analog for fire. If you want to actually set something 🧵

on fire of course, a different solution will be needed. I have a small cauldron with a nice bed of sand and a lid that I use for burning things but burning paper can be unpredictable when moving air catches embers and hot ashes. (My ex was a former firefighter so safety concerns are 🚨 in my head.)

My apartment complex has a strict no-flame rule AND I just had a kitchen fire last week! So something mimicking combustion is preferred. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

You are welcome! Yeah I am a homeowner but I definitely feel like I am moving away from burning (other than incense/herb bundles) unless I feel like there's no other way. I love flame but I guess I am just moving towards different methods. (And I can be inattentive and forgetful too.)

These are the real questions because depending on purpose, the alternates will be very very different.

I’m glad they asked because I’ve been scattered and hadn’t thought to include that info!

I think salt lamps are great if you don’t like led candles… what about fairy lights?

Oh, that’s a nice idea. Maybe put them in jars, as I’ve done for certain projects. Thanks!
