Someone has to do what's necessary, and you know what that is
Someone has to do what's necessary, and you know what that is
Doomer
They could use all the tricks to bring the senate to a standstill
The DNC could do hundreds of things, but literally do not care what happens to the 99%. Their gravy train continues to pour in, while we all ... just die. If I could somehow get my hands near the throat of Pelosi or Schumer...
Jesus Christ! If an op-ed won't do it, I don't know what the hell else we can even try!
We could always try giving them a Senate 2/3rds majority but then people would have to vote and that's worse than anything the Regime does.
It is possible to walk and chew gum at the same time.
It is also possible to understand sarcasm.
it's funny that you were being ironic, but also that no one in power wants to try anything else, so you were actually being literal.
The apex of ironicality
Ironocalamity wait I was trying to talk like Homer Simpson & now I’m inventing a word Ironomicallimity?
Republicans are the only ones in power
Incorrect.
what branch do dems control?
It's that the only power?
Well, I’d frame it slightly differently: the Republicans are the only ones in power. But they aren’t the only ones who have power.
no, they’re the only ones who have power, they have majorities in the house, senate & scotus
Democrats had the exact same amount of power in 2020 and did fucking nothing with it
nah, they got the infrastructure bill, american rescue plan, stopped student loan payments/interest, CHIPS act, pulled out of afghanistan, stopped the drone war. Largest climate action of any president. All through a divided congress & red scotus
none of which matters because they didnt do the actual thing they needed to, which was prosecute and jail Trump. they didnt, lost the election and gave the keys right back to Trump, nullifying any good they managed
They didn’t have SCOTUS and full congress behind them. And this crowd would be attacking them for breaking the law anyway
they absolutely did have a congressional majority. yeah, losing the court was another fuck up
Literally only thing Dems can do is turn public opinion. Op Ed’s are a way to do that.
Used to be, yes. I don't see it anymore
How many times have you called your senators this month?
3 times each. congress people too. I send emails weekly. how about you?
That’s a fair point. How would you turn public opinion?
gonna take some people getting quite uncomfortable, looking for help, seeing the democrats fail, and then finally turning left, sadly.
You were sarcastically commenting that the op-ed wasn’t enough. I was agreeing, and saying the the op-ed wasn’t not enough, and more is needed. Get better writers.
Both about as useful as writing an op ed
Bernie can go back to naming post offices every 40 years
Choose your weapon….. Leeches or Worms?!!!
Dang. Well we tried everything
Strongly worded letter 🙃
Don't forget the many strongly worded questions!
I laughed when Bernie asked RFK if he supported Healthcare as a Human Right Likewise, at Satan's nomination, Bernie asked if Satan supported air conditioning and ice water.
What's Chuck doin'?
Oh.
Gee, what a great way to move the Overton window, by immediately acquiescing and giving up. Was your snarkiness and cynicism supposed to help here?
And 6 that out took less than 5 minutes!
These calls from Democrats are a necessary predicate to mass mobilization. The public has to very visibly demand RFK's departure.
One of the most quietly heartbreaking scenes in film history
Amazing movie. Up there with McDonagh’s IN BRUGES.
Now I'm curious, which film?
Banshees of Inisherin
Ah! Yes that's on my list for the days when I can stomach something that isn't a comedy. Thank you.
It is wickedly funny… just also incredibly sad…
Well, yes. I can only handle guaranteed happy endings lately because ... *gestures*
Don’t watch it in that mood. It’s wildly sad. It’s way too sad, imo.
Consider me warned! Used to love all the Feels stuff. Black Mirror was amazing until one day it wasn't.
Dems don't have the majority. Now what would you expect him to say?
the replies to this thread are deranged, none of your centrist heroes have the spine to even do this and you’re all coming out to shit on bernie because your brain leaked out of your ears a decade ago
As far as I’m concerned, every single senator voted for Rubio as Secretary of State, and that’s all the evidence I need to throw out the lot of them.
So I guess you’re okay with strongly worded letters when it’s Bernie.
You want Bernie to clip the guy?
What would you like the minority party to do beyond that that is actually within their power to do?
A single House Democrat could move to impeach him. Needs just a simple majority in the House to impeach.
Bernie is neither in the House, nor a Dem. Also, Johnson can stop the impeachment in the rules cmte, as he already did once. Even if Dems can force it to a full vote, it's unlikely enough GOP Reps defect to impeach him. Might still be worth doing, but it probably won't even get to the Senate.
Even if I'm wrong & it does somehow get a majority in the House, there's zero chance 20+ GOP Senators vote to convict & remove RFK (67+ to convict, less 47 Dems & Indies, leaves 20+, assuming all Dems on board). Again, still maybe worth doing, just know that it'll be performative & won't oust RFK.
Maybe it would be performative, but forcing Republicans to defend RFK Jr would be a better move politically than writing a strongly worded letter.
It'll die in the rules committee, just like happened when Al Green forced the issue on impeaching Trump. It is not possible for the minority party to force the majority party to do anything they don't want to do. The rules don't allow for it, & even if they did, the majority controls the rules.
There's no magic button Democrats simply refuse to push that will let them win in the legislature. 2024 Voters refused to give Democrats enough power to actually do things when they voted in November. This is downstream of that.
When democrats are the majority party all we hear is how they can't get anything done because of republican obstructionism. When the republicans are the majority party all we hear is that the democrats can't stop anything because they are the minority party. Same old tired song and dance.
Who says that? Biden passed a bunch of legislation. Obama passed the ACA.
Here are lists of a combined 79 major bills Republicans failed to block in Obama's & Biden's first two years each. bsky.app/profile/adri...
Imagine the self delusion necessary to try to claim that the democrats haven't spent the last three plus decades complaining about "republican obstructionism" in congress.
It's not that they can't obstruct *anything*. They can, & do obstruct things. It's just that they can't obstruct *everything*. They cannot, do not, & have not. That's why Dems still passed those 79 bills. So Dems can't obstruct everything, either.
The minority can slow things down, force the majority to prioritize, complicate deals (eg, if Bob says he'll vote for A only if Joe votes for B, & vice versa, but the party is forced to choose between passing only A OR B, Bob & Joe's deal doesn't work anymore), & let them pass fewer bills, but > 0.
It's asymmetrical. What you're objecting to is the difference between what can be done by simple majority, & what needs a supermajority. Dems want to legislate on civil, LGBT, voting, women's, labor, children's, environmental, abortion rights, education, etc, & it all takes 60+ Senate votes.
But the GOP's agenda of almost exclusively tax cuts & judges only needs 51+ Senate votes to pass. Blocking those takes 51+ votes. Whose affirmative task is harder: 60+ votes to pass, or 51+ votes to pass? Whose negative task is harder: getting 41+ votes to block, or getting 51+ votes to block?
The GOP generally doesn't want to affirmatively do things. Tax cuts require legislation, so they do those, but it can be done via reconciliation, so it only needs a simple maj. They passed a large recon spending bill, also by simple maj. Judicial confirmations are done by simple majority, too.
Then, instead of trying to get 60+ votes to repeal laws they don't like, GOP lets the judiciary, who they confirmed by simple majority, strike down or otherwise hobble the laws they don't like, also by simple majority. They can win at trial 1-0, on appeal 2-1, or at SCOTUS 5-4. No supermajorities.
But you'll note, even when the GOP only has bare majorities in the Senate, as they did Trump's first two years in 2017-19, & as they do now, they left the filibuster in place. That may change, but, for now, they're limited to fiscal policy & confirmations, & they're even failing on confirmations.
Now, I think the filibuster is an undemocratic (small-d) rule, & should be abolished, but I'm content to see it left in place for the time being, while it benefits Dems. But they should abolish it first thing in January, 2029, assuming a Dem trifecta.
play dirty like they are.
Ok, like what? What can the minority party do to "play dirty" that they aren't currently doing? Be specific.
It would help if Democrats were actually doing things that are within their power. Instead we’ve had business as usual: unanimous consent, granted clotures, & avoiding filibusters. At least Sanders has been holding rallies, but a single 83 year old man shouldn’t be the load bearing dissent.
Writing an op-ed in a popular newspaper is a power that the minority party has. It can be a good tool to help keep people focused. But this one does seem a bit of a miss. You won’t win by asking someone to quit. Not after they fought their whole career to get there. So, now what?
Democrats ARE doing the things w/in their power. The problem isn't that Dems aren't using the power they have, it's that the power they have, the power that voters gave them, is insufficient. Democrats do not have any power to do anything to RFK beyond simply asking him to quit.
The minority party can't hold hearings, can't subpoena ppl & docs, can't impeach, can't convict, can't remove. Dems, as the minority party in both houses, literally do not have the power to do what needs to be done. It's not that they somehow refuse to do it, it's that it's impossible for them.
So blame Republicans for confirming RFK, & for leaving him in his position after all this nonsense he's already done (esp Sen Bill Cassidy, MD), & blame voters for electing Trump & the GOP in the first place.
what is your point? that opposing these fascists isn't worthwhile? Bernie would have been a phenomenal president. Thanks, lib
Call your Republican Congress rep
💀
Now we keep saying it. It's called "politics". HTH
Right, look how amazing that's worked out.
Pessimism is a bad use of your valuable time and energy. Bernie is providing leadership. If you think you're a better leader, then show us. Be that leader.
It's not pessimism, it's objectivity after witnessing the last 12 years. They took the job, they should do the job, but none did (including Bernie, who voted /for/ some of this shit and twice lauded Trump.) The problem is they're still treating this as politics as usual.
Bernies never has real solutions, he’s just a grifter influencer.
"The most popular politician in the country for several years running never has real solutions" Shut the fuck up you incredible hate filled moron, go caucus with the GOP www.ontheissues.org/bernie_sande...
He and AOC have been criss-crossing the country, galvanizing public consciousness about the failures of administration. What have the establishment braintrust in Schumer's and Jeffries' offices been doing? Other than just waiting for 2026 to happen?
No, they haven’t. They have been cross-crossing the country railing against the “oligarchs,” and blaming “the system” for our political ills. Everything except, you know, arguing in favor of the only viable political opposition to the fascist regime currently in power.
The "only viable political opposition?" Which is what, exactly, since you alone seem to know? They are pointing to important structural issues that absolutely account for why the billionaire class can impose its will. In the meantime, we haven't heard a peep from your liberal establishment.
Keep shitting on both parties equally, and keep wondering why fascism keeps winning. Maybe you’ll figure it out eventually.
I'm not "shitting on" anyone. I support the Democrats, and supporting the Democrats right now means calling upon them to do more than sitting on their asses. There's some evidence that AOC and Bernie are doing that. There is no evidence that Schumer and Jeffries are doing that.
You mean flying in private planes giving his 40 year old stump speech bashing Democrats & grifting while shilling his books.
Again, I'm waiting for any of you to tell me what Jeffries and Schumer are doing, other than just passively hoping democracy stays in place long enough for Jeffries to get the House majority back
Hakeem Jeffries has been supporting his caucus across the country, especially in red states like Texas where they’re trying to gerrymander Democratic congressional representatives out of their seats in addition to doing constituent services in his own district.
Right, I guess that makes up for him basically passing up any leverage that he and Schumer had on the debt ceiling or budget Incidentally, if you want to get bent out of shape about Bernie's "book tour," both Schumer and Jeffries were peddling their books in the midst of the DOGE takeover
He did the right thing. Trump would never have reopened the government which would’ve meant the courts would’ve shut down which is the only thing we have holding him back now & preventing immigrants from being sent to CECOT.
You're basically just parroting Schumer's press office at this point.
You asked what he was doing and I gave you the link to where you could find out what he’s doing.
No, I gave you a link to his press page.
Schumer canceled his book tour & Jeffries was a book on Democracy for kids. Neither spent their entire congressional careers grifting books becoming multimillionaires off their political careers like Bernie who’s only accomplishments in office have been renaming post offices.
Bernie Sanders' estimated net worth: $3 million Chuck Schumer's estimated net worth: $7 million www.southwestjournal.com/celebrities/... www.forbes.com/sites/kylemu...
Schumer didn’t start off poor & make his millions grifting books on how Capitalism is bad by cosplaying as a socialist to gullible groupies. Bernie is worth $15 million.
This is what Schumer has been busy doing in his own state of New York. www.schumer.senate.gov/about/chuck-...
And this: Check this out! www.schumer.senate.gov/newsroom/pre...
You realize that with zero chance of getting this past House and Senate majorities, let alone signed into law by Trump, this is a meaningless gesture, right? He could have taken meaningful action *stopping* GOP legislation, rather than this weak sauce fake effort to roll it back after the fact
There’s a budget deadline coming up October 1 that they’ll need Senate Democratic votes to pass. That’s Chuck Schumer’s leverage to get those healthcare funds restored.
You are extremely credulous if you think he's going to do anything with that. On the earlier bill, he and other Dems in the Senate leadership voted for cloture -- removing the filibuster-proof leverage they had -- so that they could turn around and offer meaningless votes against the bill itself
calling a sitting senator an influencer is pretty funny
Oops you stumbled into the wrong decade let’s get you back
Name the congressperson you think has real solutions.
I can toss off three names off the top of my head. Do you even know any other politician than Molasses Moses?
Name just one.
Jasmine Crockett
Jared Moskowitz Jasmine Crockett Fredericka Wilson Mark Kelly—Senator Chris Van Hollen-Senator Robert Garcia Eric Swalwell Lauren Underwood Joe Neguse Shontel Brown Dan Goldman Maxwell Frost Jamie Raskin Amy Klobucher—Senator Tina Smith—Senator Elissa Slotkin—Senator Alex Padilla—Senator Etc
Raphael Warnock—Senator Jon Osoff—Senator Lucy McBath Debbie Wasserman-Schulz Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick Rebecca Balint LaMonica McGiver
Are you defending RFK Jr here?
What a stupid thing to say, none of your lib heroes have had the strength of will to even do this
Your sentence right there was a pretty stupid thing to say as well as untrue.
RFK Jr resigning is a pretty good solution in my book.
You bring what to what table here ?
Yup. He’s high on the attention and hasn’t accomplished anything useful. But he did elevate Gabbard and Fetterman!
Do you want him to like go to RFKs house…
Unironically yes
He could demand the release of the Epstein files, RFK is in there too. Also he could go to the guy’s house, save a lot of lives
They also fail on Bernie’s history
Well you aren't, so he's just as good. Did you think you could tweet the Trump admin away?
I don't think bernie sanders could do much against RFK there is a pretty big age gap Peter
bernie hasn't done anything ever.
Not one thing!
Thirteen year age gap. They both have heart issues.
Bernie is a scrapper and a fighter, he also is pretty tall, but i think those 13 years probably gonna treat him worse in his battle vs the living embodiment of rot who just ate 3 bear hearts for lunch
No, of course not, that's obviously Hakeem Jeffries' job.
For a caged wrestling match? Yes.
There’s precedence for that match not at the home of either and could happen on the floor. A surprising number of fist fights have occurred in Congress. Unless that happens I refuse to take “strongly worded” criticism as anything more than “thoughts and prayers”
Th fascists and white supremacists have broken with decorum The Caning of Charles Sumner (1856): Representative Preston Brooks of South Carolina attacked Senator Charles Sumner with a cane after Sumner's anti-slavery speech insulted Brooks's relative, Senator Andrew Butler.
We gotta be more like Serbia apnews.com/article/serb...
Sir, you’re talking to your mirror, sir.
Then we send him to the Phantom Zone like Zod
“When Democrats take back power, RFK Jr and all his accomplices will be removed from office and prosecuted as the first step towards restoring the rule of law” is what Dems SHOULD say next.
"Stop! Or we'll... say stop again!"
MAKE HIM
I honestly can't remember if Bernie is still even in office.
Until he dies
He is, making time to fucking praise Trump www.aljazeera.com/economy/2025... You don't praise enemies, period.
They should do more, but unless you’re saying Bernie should assassinate RFK, what’s wrong with a pressure campaign?
Maybe you put some pressure on him… or keep doing this 🤷♂️
tell us: how to pressure an unelected cabinet appointee who literally doesn't even acknowledge reality.
You don’t have a senator? House rep ? You still not taken government??
you said "on him," guy. don't talk down to me.
fyi you can put direct or indirect pressure . its still pressure. let you 8th grade teacher know you learned something today
I don't believe that will work, considering I am already doing what you suggested and it has not, in fact, worked.
in mass ?
Your 8th grade teacher having taught you how to leverage a US senator into acting at all is impressive - but to do so even against their own party, as is the case for more than half of them? That also where you learned to be a smugly ignorant dipshit?
they also agree with me and are just upset about the situation in general.... point being stop being a shitty troll for the both of you
nice try but still failed... im saying they are not old enough to be on this site full stop. you projecting that onto me is just silly not as will as OP but close. any ways get a life
Yeah umm child get off the social media until you are of age and get an education please
You suck ass
maybe dont troll so poorly next time, i get you are upset, so am i
just takes one person in the house to introduce articles of impeachment
Introducing is pretty easy. But getting a vote on it, when you don’t have the gavel, and then getting a 2/3rds majority, is a matter of science-fiction in today’s Congress.
making the attempt is itself an action; forcing republicans to defend RFKJ in public actually has value.
not in the current information state, sadly. you would have been right when americans thought highly of their own ability to be "sensible" even if they were bigoted, or supported capitalism or whatever. those days are gone. they revel in their ignorance and hatred.
I’m sorry but when you say these things this is what I hear
Expect that people on this app won't treat it that way. They will treat it as "Dems did nothing." 220 will always be greater than 215.
No, it’s not when you don’t even have the votes to force a discharge petition to force it onto the floor. It’s just a stunt then.
Please. Social media now has infinity number of examples of Trumpers *shocked* that they’re being harmed yet would OF COURSE vote for him again. The GOP is a cult of personality at this point. Lots of DC GOPers know it’s all wrong but will not stand up to anything this administration wants to do.
Keep reminding people of Dr Bill Cassidy's singular role in putting RFK Jr. in his role. Cassidy is running for re-election to the Senate in Louisiana in 2026.
I’ll keep doing this til he does bsky.app/profile/rheu...
Schumer: *licks the tip of his pen while placing a sheet of watermarked stationary on his desk blotter* I know what to do.
Which is as effective as Bernie (or his staffers) writing an op-ed.
Dems: I’m fresh outta ideas, whatchu got
Yeah all these liberals are like "Impeach Trump!" and "RFK Must Resign!" My god we are just criminally deluded. It's literally painful to read liberal "discourse" these days. PEOPLE IN HELL WANT ICE WATER.
He must be impeached, but the fascist members of Congress won’t do it.
I guess why do anything in politics
He said
Kennedy must be [redacted]
Sack the Quack BAMN
We fight against this fascism as a community. I'm posting this for we all must be TRUE Trans Allies! For I PROUDLY stand with the Trans Community. For Trans Rights are and will always be Human Rights. Everyone who reads this and is a Trans Ally or Trans themselves, take the best of care.
you know how everybody before the election was saying "you all need to vote for Democrats, and convince other people to vote for Democrats, even if you aren't happy with the Democrats, otherwise the Republicans, who are worse, will have all the power and the Democrats won't be able to stop them"?
It's going to happen again, because the only person who seems on track to challenge Trump/Vance/Satan is Newsom, and many will not vote for him because he does not align with all of their values. So instead we'll just get Satan again
There’s a difference between political preference (by which measure very few people get even close representation) & a politician who signals that people’s humanity & rights are political tokens to be traded. It’s not a purity test to want the side of civil rights to actually support civil rights.
At a certain point this has to be an op right? People can't seriously be THIS ignorant about how this works after all these months of Republicans having a trifecta. If you wanted them stopped, kicking your allies in the nuts won't make it happen.
Idk, if there was ever a cardinal rule for dealing with humanity it's: Never underestimate our ignorance or the pride we take in it.
the problem, Fynn, is that A) the Dems have been shitting on us for thirty fucking years so they have ZERO reservoir of credibility B) during this administration they have fumbled so many opportunities to punch back that they might as well be Republicans
A hasn't been true for over a decade and is physically, substantially easy to prove. * Bernie got concessions on primaries re 16, Super Delegates lost a lot of power, DNCC head resigned * Warren and Bernie got tons of power following 20 * Squad forced Pelosi to stop fucking with state primaries
Mamdani is literally ROLLING in support from the NY DNC. At a certain point, bitching about how leftists were treated in the party 30 years ago is some of the most dumb bullshit I can even imagine. Like yeah, there were 40 libermans at one point, there's not even Manchin now. Shit changes.
Also talking about self-owns from the admin really does a bad job of highlighting how much of a self-own it was to depress voter turnout in 2010 on due to the failure to pass single payer and give Republicans control for over a decade. Most of my life has been stagnant, politically, due to just that
At a certain point, not only do you have to take the W and stop acting like a special little persecute boy but you also have to accept that you WILL get L's and that's the price of power. If we want more leftists, you get there via the DNC, there IS no other alternative bar constitutional amendments
Fuck Sinema toasted her ENTIRE CAREER trying to be a both-sides centrist darling. There's literally never been a more clear-cut example that not only are DNC voters sick of it, they are actively TAKING ACTIONS to prevent that exact Liberman scenario again. That matters a LOT for Leftist wins.
We've been warning you for 45 years at least that strong action needs to be taken to prevent a fascist takeover. This is bigger than one election, and we've been sounding the alarm for decades. But you dweebs can't see any further than the tipping point and think that's the only moment that mattered
He should though. And people should say so. And people should agree. Then more people should say so. And repeat. Saying that he won’t is doing these idiotic fascist’ work for them.
People in hell want ice water. Saying doesn't make it so. Maybe we should TRY FIGURING OUT HOW TO STOP HIM instead of just shouting into the wind.
We're all ears, man. What you got?
Well I do like the idea of blue states refusing to fund red states. Mostly I think we could start with the Dem Congress doing SOMETHING rather than NOTHING. Figure out every single way to drag everything to a halt. Every procedure. And every Dem at every level publicly resisting.
Oh, okay. The something congressional dems should do is something. That clears it up.
Glad I could help you out, buddy. Because I am absolutely in charge and not just an old man yelling at clouds.
Like, with the CDC walkout, except at EVERY LEVEL EVERYWHERE. The goddamn country is being set on fire. And Chuck Schumer looks over those fucking glasses at us ready to be "very concerned." Pritzker in Illinois is starting to do something. Now that, but EVERYWHERE.
*zip, boom, pow*, that's what
I see that a lot of people are pissed about this take, but also none of them are offering up any useful ideas.
The more Dem leadership, along with some Republicans like Sen. Cassidy and others in the medical field keep banging the drum, the more pressure he feels. He’s already shown he can’t handle too much scrutiny, so the more the spotlight is on him, the more compelled he will feel to resign.
These things are called “exhortations to virtue”.
But I can't help but notice that when actual members of the Democratic Party do it they get screamed at for being useless. 🤔
great question, cuts to the chase
Remove Trump 25th Amendment
There may be ostensibly some Bernie populists who are also MAHA adjacent. This is is a good thing to publish
People will start dying.
History
Well maybe he can do some cynical posting about it Joe, that seems productive
We have to make him into a big enough wedge issue in midterms that Trump ditches him. Calls for his resignation like this are part of that
*You* need to start calling *your* reps and hounding them. *You* need to do something too! Wild!
adding '[actual outcome], now what' to the end of mind numbingly obvious ass comments has been my salvation for so much. 'it was a business decision--' 'and that decision not only sucked, but lost us money and is getting our asses beat in more ways than one. Now what?' obvious shit jfc
Was anyone expecting Bernie fuckin Sanders to actually accomplish anything?
