Someone I talked to for the book said to me "he had like 15 laptops. It's what rich people do." There was no central "laptop," and that's what makes it all more likely he just had his iCloud hacked.

i said early on (on twitter before i deleted my account) that it seemed odd how all of the files that were on the laptop just happened to be stuff that is backed up to iCloud. i wouldn't be surprised if there was a "laptop," it just was populated with the hacked data and dropped off by someone else

A targeted hack of a very opportune target, and this works as a way to get the material into places it can be shared without consequences, or problems for how and where getting the contents out into public for obvious reasons.
