Puritanism is alive and well and as toxic as it ever was, in America. We're obsessed with these reality shows because America has a massive obsession with sex and sexuality largely driven by 15th century religious beliefs that refuse to fade into the background. Sex and sexuality are human nature.

Puritanism denies the humanity of sex & sexuality, demonizes it based upon "biblical" traditions (who's bible btw?), adherents wind up growing up believing sex & sexuality are evil & will suppress both to avoid evil. The problem is that sex & sexuality are inherently in one's personality & mind.

Suppression leads to dangerous mindsets, IMHO... 1) Adherents grow up not fully understanding themselves as adults 2) Adherents experience adolescence but get little support through it 3) occasionally, unhealthy sex oriented fantasies take root in an Adherent that become drivers towards violence

This is a very interesting opinion.

It's my observation. But it's based upon my struggles with addiction 3 decades ago and the role my internal conversation with myself played in the continued hell of addiction. We talk ourselves into doing stupid things all the time.

My friend, I know your struggles as my own. I did the same thing for years before I was able to pull my face out of my behind. Internally, I still relive everything I've ever done, but I've learned to forgive myself. Never forget that you are worthy. You deserve happiness too in the life. Aloha! 🤙

Back on point: I don't think the internal conversation we all have with ourselves is given enough meaning (weight) in development of & pervasiveness of mental health conditions. There is nothing more personal than the crap that plays on tape over & over...in my head. No one gives that up either.

Depends on the fantasy, but ruminating over anything for a long period of time tends to not be healthy. Just my opinion

Oh, I remember tiny offshoots related to the shit I'd done 3 decades ago and, yes, sometimes the self anger keeps me up still. Forgiving myself was the single most difficult person that needed forgiving that I had to forgive. The 4 agreements.
