As a woman - I have to submit or die. I can leave it alone or continue to be harangued until I can concede they’re right on SOME point. Because they’re NOT wrong, they can’t even say “whoops, I misunderstood!” 1/2
2/2 It’s so easy to just say that and move on instead of doubling down but this is how we got the political situation we got. (And the gender of this most recent arguer is not lost on me.)
It's baffling. To me, it's somewhat synonymous with those who support the Trump regime's actions and are then shocked when they find that Medicaid cuts, benefit reductions, tariff price increases, ICE arrests, etc., dont apply just to 'other' people, but also to them and/or their spouses/families.
Americans as a population and in our legal values swing away from empathy. Empathy in an argument demands that I think, “what are the conditions under which the other party is correct?” Assuming the other party is smart and reasonable. 1/2
This is where you get centrist Dems. They fight for the stuff THEY want, usually from their lived experience - not rights for everyone. Fighting for poor folks but not Black or trans folks, for example (even though someone can embody 0-3 of these categories). There’s no empathy. 2/2 2/2
There's not none, but it's definitely in very limited supply. Witness the War on Woke, when woke at its core is nothing more - or less - than basic human decency toward others, i.e., an outward display of empathy.
