Why can't people get a no-frills car anymore? They all come loaded with features that the government doesn't even mandate. Blind spot monitoring Lane keep assist Lane departure warning Adaptive cruise control Auto high beam headlights Engine idle stop Sign recognition etc

Because most customers care about safety and fuel efficiency, maybe?

It's a hypothesis, not a statement 🙄

Fuel efficiency? Have you seen the behemoths on the road? Trucks aren't even trucks anymore, they're people movers.

That was in reference to "engine idle stop", one of the listed features.

One of the dumbest things ever invented for a car. LOL.

It's typical in many European countries to stop the engine if you're behind the second car at a stop light. So this is a nice convenience to have.

You obviously don't have it in your car, otherwise you wouldn't say that. You want the engine to stop every time your car creeps ahead a few feet? You want all of that wear on your starter and battery? I always shut it off when I start the car. It's ridiculous for most people.

I do that myself, have for years. I don't need to be babysat by a Big Brother gadget.

I drive a 200 hp hybrid which already gets 49 mpg. I'm not concerned about fuel efficiency.
