Don't want to disparage all male high school teachers but feel like "the cool teacher wound up with rumors about "dating" a student/s " is kind of common maybe more-so in the 90s & earlier.

After my junior year in high school I was out on a date and I saw one of our teachers leaving the restaurant with a girl who had just graduated out high school. Always wondered if they waited or if they just kept it on the down low while she was still in high school.
Either way, it's so wrong. I know of a teacher who did that to "celebrate" girl & friend graduating, ( he got her drunk..had sex) she tried to sue him /get him fired but it didn't go anywhere because she was 18. fast forward several years another girl accused him- finally he was fired. (south FL)
I had a high school teacher I was friendly with show up at my dorm! He thought what I thought was mild friendship (I’d gone to a few HS away baseball games with him and a couple of my friends) was me just waiting to graduate. OMFG. How pathetic to be a 35 year old showing up to a freshman dorm.
I hate that these stories are so common as to be almost cliché. And I can't imagine what it would feel like to learn a teacher, whom you'd trusted and considered to be safe, actually was actually objectifying and grooming you the entire time.
At that age, we just didn't realize how messed up that is- how abusive. At least kids now seem to be more aware of things like power imbalance? I HOPE that type of teacher-abuse is less common now.
Me too.
I graduated HS in mid 1980s and the male drama teacher was married to a girl who was 22 or so. My older sister said that she went to school w that girl and everyone had known about the teacher and her. It hadn’t seemed inherently creepy to my sister and her classmates at the time.
😬
so icky & wrong. I wonder what happened to him.
