I worked in an un-air conditioned factory one summer as a teenager. It was a fairly nice place as 1960’s factories go, but it was hard, boring, dirty textile work.

I had no trouble getting work picking fruit or working in a factory. Very hard work, very low wages, but I needed it to put myself through school. The employee turnover rate is high (many can't do the work). They almost always need people. Picking is less than minimum wage, they pay by the pound.
