Most ships pre 1918 were coal powered The Warspite and QE class were the first oil fired battleships. The costs so freaked out the admiralty that the next 5 Revenge class went back in 1917 to coal. They then realised they could not turn back the clock. Meant most pre 1918 ships had no future
