A former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, and a senior figure in the previous Trump administration, told us the UK's plan to eventually spend 2.5% of GDP on defence would be seen as a "positive step, but not enough," suggesting Trump would expect targets closer to 3. ukdefencejournal.org.uk/trump-likely...

The NATO requirement is 2% minimum. If we can get to 2.5% in our current economic woes then great but Orange Felon and his Maga Scumbags can go f*** themselves if they think they can dictate to us and the rest of NATO to force through 3%.

Note. 2% is a recommendation not a requirement. You can be at 1% and be a member.

Fair enough & on that it should be 2%minimum requirement not just a recommendation for membership. But I'll be damned if Orange Felon is going to throw his lard around & threaten the other members to increase their contributions. He seems to think he's Head of NATO when the US is just another member

Iceland has been a member of NATO since its foundation in 1949. Iceland has no standing military of its own, but it is a key member of NATO, and the 1951 bilateral Defence Agreement with the United States of America is a part of its security policy.

I'm amazed Orange Felon hasn't demanded Iceland yet. Also since O.F likes tearing/blowing up agreements i do wonder if he's going to threaten to blow up bilateral security agreements if he doesn't get his way.

Don't look at what he says, look at what he does. I think some things are down to him being deranged, some of it down to him pandering to his base, some of it is him trying to get a deal and having a particular starting position, whatever, what he does matters more than the crap he says.

I've found that what he says he will do, believe him and this time there are very few guard rails preventing him from doing the worst. I really do think European NATO Members should really consider how much Intel we share with the US after Jan 20th. I fear what we tell them he will be telling Putin.

Trump and his supporters see China as a bigger issue. trump can't look weak over Ukraine as it will embolden China to take Taiwan. Trump taking Greenland is all about denying Artic resources to Russia. So he does see Russia as a rival.

I must respectfully disagree. His suppotters might but Trump doesn't given his numerous business dealings with China and his latest cosy up to the Tik Tok CEO and now wants tik tok not banned. He's already weak on Ukraine and as for Greenland were he eber to get his filthy claws on it he'd sell it

To Russia for consideranle profit. He is an absolute to us all and it is going to be a very long, very dark and quite possibly very destabilising four years ahead.

Trump cares about Trump. He sees himself as a deal maker and he won't give anything to anyone unless there's something also in it for him. He tried to get a deal with North Korea, he got nothing and gave nothing in return. Just giving things away would make him look weak. Note, Biden was weak on..

The think is everyone can bring something different to the party. Defence spending can be just one bit of it. It would be great if Austria or Switzerland joined even if it only meant NATO aircraft could overfly their countries.

I think that is a good thing and it is true that each member brings something to the table 😊 It would be great if Austria and Switzerland joined however given Austrias shift to the right I doubt they will join anytime soon. Switzerlands staunch neutrality/proclivity for playing both sides will

Continue to see them pass on membership sadly. I am pleased Sweden and Finland have joined and i hope Ukraine can too in the very near future.
