'When I am travelling the world, as I often do, of course, being prime minister, that feeling when I get to Heathrow and I see the flag logo and I know that I am home.'

Exactly! And the role of the flag in new citizen ceremonies, actually welcoming new Brits.

The British electorate loves electing elitists!

"When I see it at international summits I remember that I represent our nation and all its citizens, and that we are viewed as a key friend and partner by countries the world over. Which is why you should vote for me and not the guy who wants to blow all that up"

'To me one of the proudest things was seeing the Union Flag on a Ukraine-controlled drone. Anyway, just subtly going to pivot to the fact that Farage is soft on this stuff.'

"I recently saw it on the pants of an Only Fans model and it reminded me of Britain's world-leading role in new and innovative companies bringing in hundreds of millions in tax" - might need some work

And yeah it might be very 2012 Olympics of me but I do actually like seeing the Union Jack on stuff when abroad. Despite the Discourse On Here quite a lot of people in other countries do view us positively and yes that does make me feel the warm fuzzies

Oh to be clear I totally recognise that for most people in this country the flag is a positive and heartening thing, even if I personally don't feel that emotional connection. I'm just curious whether *the journalistic question* comes with a good media-friendly politician's answer

Wax poetic about the flag representing the people of the nation. I can think of a dozen ways that I could talk about the flag that are complimentary and truthful and that's without being anyone's idea of a patriot.

I mean the Union Jack is a good flag to do that with! It's got several other flags in it!

Ok maybe I could do this one if I was prime minister, talk for 15 minutes about the feat of graphic design, get out Figma and start mocking up worse alternatives for comparison

'Part of respecting our flag is displaying it in line with protocol, on a flag pole, in a place of honour, raised & lowered at sunrise & sunset, if flown at night then properly illuminated by a spotlight. Tying a flag to a lamppost, & then forgetting about it is not respecting our national flag'
