It is astounding how few people are willing to do this for their parents. Excuses abound.

What if I told my dad DONT DO IT DONT GET A DOG. And then he does and dies
Well, this is easy for me to say but I suspect our parents did a whole hell of a lot for us. I guess I would want to do what would have made my parents happy.
It’s either elitist, delusional, or naive to think the children are in a position to take on an animal, which everyone knows is a huge undertaking and not possible in every living situation. I’ll just pick up my life, spend thousands of dollars, and move to another place immediately- no problem. 👌
There will be circumstances where it is not possible but for those that can, it would be a way to honor one's parents. Not sure how taking in a pet requires relocation.
Ok, so it’s naïveté you’re dealing with… I can help. Many apartments do not allow pets, or at the least have restrictions. I have lived in such apartments and found it very difficult to relocate when I had a cat and a dog.
Yes, I understand. When I was young and single, it was harder to find an apartment that allowed my dogs. But I would never give up my dogs and I found a place eventually. But it's true, not everyone can or will make it work.
It’s trailer park thinking. ‘My daddy had this blue tick hound and Ima take cur of it.’
