Who originally thought it was a good idea to build children’s camps in a notorious flash flood zone? This isn’t the first time this has happened in that same area. 1987 & fatalities then, too.

With that large a Camp, that many children-I'm to believe that not one Adult had a frigging Weather Radio? Not a cell phone-an actual Weather Alert System radio. It should have been in a Main Office where somebody should have been AWAKE. Was there no Emergency System within the Camp to alert others?

The death toll could be over 100. One of the campgrounds near the Mystic had 33 Rv’s. All washed away by a raging torrent at 4:30 am. More than horrific

Curious if there are any regulations to run these camps. Is anyone assigned to stand guard overnight? Surely, if anything, insurance would require something. I’ve read that citizens of that area voted down to have a proper alarm system installed. Why is safety an option? So many wrongs.

Summer camps are incredibly unregulated. Here in MO we had a lot of weather awareness around thunderstorms and tornadoes but that was entirely voluntary

I had a nightmare when my kids were little. I dreamt we were camping in tents. We were outside the tents except our youngest & a huge surge of water washed the tent completely away. I had that dream over 30 years ago. I woke up terrified. I’m reminded of it each time there’s a flood like this.
