Commander pet peeve: When someone suggests a generically powerful card from a recent set for my deck. Friend I am out here playing Crovax and Harald. What makes you think I care about The Endstone?

You know what was cool? Holding Surestrike Trident over the head of the table and then having everyone slowly pick up to read it to fully understand what a threat it posed...and then they added it to their carts. I don't need generically busted stuff. Give me the weird! bsky.app/profile/nerd...

This card is more exciting for Harald than any generic "go anywhere" piece of cardboard:

Riveteers Decoy {1}{G} Creature — Human Warrior This creature must be blocked if able. Blitz {3}{G} (If you cast this spell for its blitz cost, it gains haste and “When this creature dies, draw a card.” Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.) He keeps the heat off his allies—by drawing it all to himself. 3/1 Watermark: Riveteers Illustrated by Inka Schulz

Surestrike Trident... that's a name I haven't heard in a long time

I playtested my 2017 Ghost Council of Orzhova deck today, and brother, how did we win games back then?

I pulled a copy of the One Ring when the LotR set came out. Played it in roughly 2 games and immediately took it out of every deck I had it in. Powerful? Absolutely. But it just didn’t…fit anywhere. It was always off theme and/or not really contributing to the deck’s gameplay in a way that was fun.

I hate it when people do that. Deckbuilding is an inherent choice in what cards you want to run versus cards you don't. Even if they are "better" doesn't mean they are more likable inclusions.
