He knows he voted by mail for years. He knows he did not save the country from being “dead” before he was sworn in. There are lies that maybe were spur of the moment then get repeated, then there are planned and crafted lies. But once he says them, he believes them
I think it comes so natural to him - even pre-dementia, he was coming up with these whopper lies. He has to self-delude himself to exist that I don't think its a conscious decision to lie.

I used to think he knew the difference but now? His senility is in the driver's seat. And he contradicts himself so often its insane. I think he truly believes the rubbish he spews. So now he just "floods the zone" with such ease & creates his own fantasy land

There is the dementia — now. But dissecting his pathology gives some sense of excuse for his culpability and I (personally) can’t have that Maybe he couldn’t help himself but much of the time he knew he was lying and sometimes crafted those lies
Oh, I don't excuse a thing he says or does - he was deliberately lying in not too far past & now its just on auto-pilot. Wonder if there was a brain scan first time around & an updated scan - would be interesting to see the differences.
