The only reason that immigration causes pressure on wages is because the vast majority of it is illegal. If we just allowed people to come over here and work, salaries wouldn't be impacted.

Wrong. The price you can charge for your labour is dependant upon the abundance of your skills and the level of want for those skills. If you have skills that are only available to natives, such as being a layer, then you love having plenty of cheap plumbers about.
