There’s footage of pre-2008 Sarah Palin making sense and not being a racist idiot, and she was the most popular governor in America when she got selected by John McCain, so I’d have to say yes, it’s possible to be dumber than Sarah Palin. There’s no evidence that Kristi Noem has ever been smart.

It was when McCain chose Palin for VP I first heard about it. And from then on she has been plain stupid. I remember we here wondered even more about who Americans chose. First GWB for POTUS. Twice. And then Palin as VP candidate. She had no idea about anything outside Alaska.

She has been particularly stupid since that 2008 campaign and was VERY stupid during that campaign, that much is true. Not to mention her dirty little secret that the way she became the most popular governor in America was literal socialism. But before that, she didn’t come off as that dumb.

I believe that if you are dumb, you’ve always been so. You don’t suddenly become dumb. You can get wiser by learning stuff though, if you turn it the other way around.

I disagree with that. There are plenty of folks out there who once were smart that have been brainwashed by misinformation and conspiracy theories to the point where now they are dumb and believe in the dumbest shit out there. I’ve also seen that phenomenon with people I know. It’s possible.

Those of us who were in Alaska pre-McCain pick can tell you she hid it well. She picked some of the dumbest fights. Almost bankrupting the state thinking she could take on Big Oil.

I'll have to defer to you since you were there and I wasn't, but it did seem like she wasn't the dimwit she turned out to be from afar. Also, taking on Big Oil isn't a bad thing. She taxed energy companies to increase the dividends paid through the Alaska Permanent Fund. That's a good thing.

And while I agree taking on Big Oil is not a bad thing she didn’t do it strategically.

I think she did have a strategy, but that it was shortsighted at best. But in hindsight, it's hard to fathom that someone that turned out to be as dumb as she is had any kind of strategy about anything. You're right that if one is gonna take on Big Oil, it needs to be done in a strategic way.

That coupled with her vindictiveness (seems to be a common GOP trait) and her bitter sore loser “only dead fish go with the flow” speech quitting as governor midterm left a lot of us with a bitter taste in our mouths. I took it personally when my beautiful state became a laughingstock because of her

For years, I respected Lisa Murkowski (as much as I disagree with her) for not always kowtowing to partisan politics, and for winning a write-in campaign after she lost a primary in 2010 with the last name "Murkowski". But after what she did last month, all that respect is lost now.

What she did was cause the oil companies to pull investment out of Alaska whose economy is 80% based on oil revenues and where it is incredibly expensive to drill. While there was short term gain in the PFDs the long term impact to the state was felt for a decades.

I actually thought it was more than that, closer to 90%. Either way, one could also argue that it's a good thing from an environmental perspective that companies pulled out investment despite the economic impact. Especially since those companies want to drill on ANWR lands.

As Governor, Palin funded a program to force wolves to run to exhaustion, + then shoot them from planes and helicopters, supposedly in the name of population control. I also remember a campaign tv interview she did where we could see that behind her, a machine was slaughtering+grinding up turkeys.
