if one is going to a protest, turn off your phone and put it in a Faraday bag. The bag will keep signals getting out and you still have it on you if you do indeed need it. And being off means data cannot be accessed without your permission.

If you don't have a bag or box, AT LEAST remove your battery!!!
Are there still phones with removable batteries though?
Not really, hence why a Faraday bag is what I recommended. They aren't expensive.
Oh, shit. I totally forgot about that!!! It's been so long since I've been in a situation to haz concerns - say, 4+ years ago - that I COMPLETELY forgot. ::headdesk:: THANK YOU for the reminder!
You can also just wrap it in tin foil
*carefully
I don't think that works
it works, i just don't recommend it cuz foil is kinda fragile.
I tried it and it didn't work. At least it rang when I called it. I used a lot but maybe not enough? I was just goofing off so it doesn't really matter.
It kind of does matter though if people are using it as a strategy to protect themselves and it isn't working!
A metal box with Styrofoam worked better. But in a pinch.
I feel at Sunday project coming on. Faraday bag/box/wrap
No.... I forgot. ::facepalm::
