if it would avoid this timeline i would too but I do like having programmable lighting

Wait ... Do you mean like the ones from Philips (etc) that go in regular lamp holders, or those strips that are more for accent lighting?

Yeah those would be hard. The strips are easy, even with "dumb" LEDs (but would require some DIY skill)
