Nonbianary markers were actively being worked on. The system is archaic, and reprogramming is difficult, so it's been a project for a while. Seemed like the direction was to move to remove gender entirely. Slow progress, but moving in the right direction. Im sure that that isn't the case NOW.
I don't know if it will change but when I was looking at it before inauguration, they basically stated they only kept track of gender markers on social security for the purposes of demographics research
It was also relevant before Same Sex marriage decision. Since then, gender marker in general has been kind of an artifact.
That make sense. Until I started looking into changing everything, I didn't realize they kept track of gender with social security because they don't put it on the card.
