One of the poorer aspects of this entire ordeal is that Guantanamo Bay is technically not considered to be on U.S. soil. It's in Cuba and is leased to our government. So once these people go there, they go there indefinitely and we will be paying to keep them there. To say nothing of horrors faced.

Only 15 detainees left in GITMO as of last month (public reports). The entire active duty 525th Army Military Police Battalion is there, Navy MAs, and a Marine Corps Security Force Company. It's all coordinated under JTF GITMO and none of this is secret information, you can easily Google it.

This I know, the reports are that it’s already costing almost $500 million a year to guard the very few prisoners left. Military industrial complex in action, and hidden from scrutiny.

I can't speak to the budget, but the guard operations are definitely not hidden from scrutiny. The International Committee of the Red Cross has a regular presence of oversight there to make sure the detainees are kept in proper living conditions and treated humanely.
