Do you really think *most* Bluesky users have no contact with rural or red state people? That seems like a wild assumption

It's certainly most of the cosplay left.
I just don’t think this is true, and I think it’s one more way that centrists are borderline deranged about cities. I have lived in cities for most of my adult life. I have lived in rural areas, too, for all of my childhood and a portion of my adult life. It’s condescending to act like people just
don’t have contact with rural areas. In my experience, it’s the opposite—I know people who have NEVER been to a city, and who think they know everything about them
I think many dont spend much time around them or they do but they are family who they love dearly
geographical segregation is a fairly well known statistical regularity
as are declining contacts in general between people with strongly opposed beliefs
if you assume bsky is just an intensification of what we know about twitter user demographics pre-elon, *shug*
Okaaaay…but that is not the same as saying rural areas are *fictional* for people. I have spent maybe 70% of my adult life in cities, but maybe 60% of my entire life in rural areas. Are rural/red state areas therefore “fictional” to me because I don’t live in one now?
And in MY experience, it’s the other way around—cities are what’s fictional for rural folks, many of whom never go to a city
