Of late, I’ve really needed a confidence boost. So I put on my ‘foolish hat’ and took my dodgy right knee up Haystacks (Wainwright’s favourite fell). Going up easy … coming down slow and exhausting. No matter, a glorious walk and a pie at the summit.
These are great! What a landscape! I've also been finding hiking good for the soul of late.
It was a gorgeous walk. And some amazing spots. This Emperor Moth caterpillar, a Peregrine hunting just twenty meters over my head, and a Barn Owl next to the campsite.
So cool. I don't think I've ever seen a Peregrine in the wild! Do you know the insane Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter, during which a group of itinerant carnival workers lost an extended firefight with (likely) Barn Owls, having mistaken them for aliens? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelly%E...

(Or maybe it was Great Horned Owls. But still!)
The Great horned would be a bit more scary … though the Barn Owl and their white creamy colours are quite ghostly.
