Fabulous night with The Aurora Orchestra and Shostakovich 5 at the Proms. Marvelling how most of the orchestra keep standing throughout the whole performance. That would stop me from being a member. That and my absence of skills with a musical instrument.
Excellent Prom. Whoever thought of this presentation - where the first half explores, with actors and orchestra, the background to the piece and the various influences - deserves high praise. Great entertainment.
I loved the moment when ‘Shostakovich’ barged through the Arena, spotlit (probably so no prommer would get shirty with him) and hit the stage perfectly timed on a crescendo.
In fact, it wasn’t just playing standing up. A few members of the @auroraorchestra.bsky.social were playing horizontally … whilst being carried and twirled around.
Very excited to see this in just a few hours now - sounds fabulous.

Yes, that looked great from where I was sitting. Also loved the movements and physicality. Use of the screens was clever too.
Just spotted that the BBC TV broadcast is tonight - may need to have a couple days and watch in on catch up 😊
