In the face of a federal criminal subpoena, my understanding is that this horrible move was necessary to protect patients and physicians. It was an impossible position.

if the option is hand over medical records or stop providing life-saving care, the clear ethical choice is to destroy the medical records before the feds can get them. The feds are gonna go after those records no matter what.

You want those DoJ goons going after private medical records of minors to harrass them and their families?? I guess that's a take. Thoughtful health care providers and advocates in our state have been gearing up in anticipation of this since the election. No one need be "sacrificed."

you simply dont give them those records no matter what the courts say destroy the records if you have to (most are digital now, and you could tell patients how to download their medical records before purging them). Even if they pause medical care, the feds are gonna go after the prior records

Just as an example: if a health system will lose federal reimbursement for health care if providing gender-affirming care, you think they should still go ahead? Now *no one* with Medicaid or Medicare insurance can access health care from this system. The fed administration is the villain here.
