Just don't use biometrics. At all. They can't force you to unlock your phone if the key is in your brain.

They have no way of knowing whether biometrics unlocks my phone or factory resets it, though.

No law can compel you. The other thing you can do is to pick a new code and don't remember it. Have it on some method unavailable at the airport. No amount of their bullshit can force unlock. Alternatively bring a blank travel device.

They have complete arbitrary authority to deny entry. So if they ‘suspect’ you, they will deny you. The same obviously does not apply to US citizens.

A few days ago @timbray.cosocial.ca.ap.brid.gy said he had heard that people were also being giving 5 year entry bans on top of being denied.
