I usually have suddenly an "I've got question, dad" at bed time, mostly completely random, but occasionally something that worries him. It's frustrating that they do that, but at bedtime when they're alone without siblings listening they then have the courage to ask. I never want the opposite.

Forgot 'from my son'. His sisters tease him mercilessly, so he gets scared to ask.

The questions are a very obvious diversion tactic but cute too. I love the wind down part, analysis of the day, deconstructing trouble, fun things, the weird, the letting go of the problems. It's hard with siblings, & it's hard to verbalise worries anyway never mind when observed.

Yeah, I have the diversion tactics which I bat off to the boundary. Sometimes they ask about their mum, which is always difficult to address. I will sit and answer honestly. Even Erin, at 17, asks about her mum and I will tell her tales about her time with us and stories her mum and dad told me.

I find the diversionary tactics very funny, but it's one to bed not three 😂. It would be hard, of course they have questions. I can imagine they really enjoy seeing you talk about her too. It's wonderful to see someone talk about someone they love, knowing where they come from.

Erin was 10 at the time, Gabriel 5 and Saffron 3. It is only natural that they ask about her. There's a whole history that's only suitable to know when they're older. Erin knows some, but the younger two don't.

Absolutely they'll want to know. My mum died 20 yrs ago, kiddo loves hearing stories about her but also wants to know the specifics, so they can make sure it doesn't happen to me. Everyone is vague about grandma cause it was bad. That vague makes my kiddo worry, the truth would be harmful.

Sometimes it's necessary to be vague. Kids know though, but they will grow when they are ready. Saying that I may always just be vague.
