let me help: a company's value instantly jumps up when they do mass layoffs because they've just cut their expenses. (because in capitalism human beings are "expenses") it's not market manipulation, this is just straight up how capitalism works.

Been there done that for many years. There's "trimming the fat" and then there's trimming yourself out of business. Small businesses don't have the luxury of laying off too many people, and our country's back bone is small business.

I don't think it is. I think large corporations and the finance industry generate the most in GDP. (not that I support gdp as a metric in the first place, I am a Marxist after all) but if every business was a "small business" I probably wouldn't be so aggressively anti-capitalism. but that's not

what capitalism is. small enterprises existed before capitalism and will likely exist after it. (unless global market economics causes our extinction)

The stock market's back bone is big business though.

Yes, but what is "big business"? It is a bunch of smaller businesses, that sell to customers, something that the customers need or want. But if customers don't have the money, they can't buy the products, or they buy much less of the products. Ultimately this causes big business to decline.

My cat, Scardy, is going to have to do without that $15 mouse toy, and I'm not alone. Many buyers of that mouse toy, will also decide against buying it. So, either the price will come down drastically, or whoever makes that toy in China will have to stop producing it.

"Capital is dead labor, which, vampire-like, lives only by sucking living labor, and lives the more, the more labor it sucks." but there is a finite loop. lower wages increases profits, but then no one can buy your shit. but because you have to increase profits, you have to lower wages... etc

2/Take General Motors. They don't just sell one product in the U.S., they sell engines, parts, cars, locomotive parts, etc. Through various distributors. Those distributors may sell "wholesale" to other businesses, or "retail" direct to the public. They need customers to buy. No money, no customer.

You asked for an explanation as to why the stock market continues to rise in the chaos, and the answer is because the stock market is all about rich people getting richer, and so they've understood that what Trump is doing is for them and are not panicking, quite the contrary.

Yes, but I believe the circle will close, and all of this will catch up, leading to a recession or worse.

I mean, you are a parasite and stole labor value from your workers, but you understand that you can't devalue labor forever without losing a consumer base, which means capitalism cannot live forever. so hell yeah dude!

People loved working for me. I treated them very well. They could have gone elsewhere, but they did not. A business, even a very small one, needs employees to grow. That's the basis of our economy. At least it was until the First Felon came into office.

no, capital has ruled this country from day one. that said no matter how nice you are, unless you're the elected leader of the coop, you are stealing value from your workers.

Yes I agree, it will be calamitous for the 99% but the rich will have made their packet. The transfer of wealth upwards was the point.

easy for certain people, not for others. it's why we communists advocate for revolution, because nothing except the people united using the state as a tool can dismantle the rule corporations have over us and our future.

As small businesses get hurt badly by tariffs, the owners will likely sell to private equity firms (the bane of U.S. business today) to get something out of it for all their hard work, but not nearly what it used to be worth. After the company is drained of capital by PE, workers will be let go.

Wasn't this what Jack Welch was all about? Every year, he'd fire the bottom 10%, based on performance. And share prices grew as a result.
