Molt is somewhat like the Grim Reaper...nobody escapes it! Even though the former doesn't have the power of the latter, its visual proof of itself transforms the spectacular into the almost spectral by stealing (temporarily) the bird's plumage. This pileated woodpecker is still grand in spite of it!
