I'm just sitting here quietly aghast at the news that the EHRC is going ahead with its unworkable guidance. It's the tiniest of things, but I have no idea where my birth certificate is so 🤷🏻‍♂️ but then the transphobes are big pushers for digital ID as a way to avoid genitalia checks. FFS 🤬

It’s always my in-lecture activity when I teach this stuff to ask who in the room actually knows where their birth certificate is, I’ve never had more than 1/4 out their hands up…

In a folder with all the other important documents.Everyone can apply for a full copy or an extract. Pretty simple . People are just lazy

Do you take your birth certificate with you when you go to your local high street, just in case anyone questions your assigned at birth gender?

Shout out to anyone German and Dutch who will just be like "keine ahnung, aber ich kann es wahrscheinlich in zwei minuten online bestellen". Not that that improves the ask but it at least makes compliance a vague possibility?

You say this and yet I’m finding it impossible to renew my German passport online 😂 (did indeed get a new copy of my birth certificate though so at least I’m safe from this lot)

Ah, but you're abroad - now there's hoop jumping to prove you're not becoming a foreigner and betraying the motherland. Administratively effective unless faced with abroad, alas.

Abroad and with a second passport so really the bureaucracy cannot trust me at all!

Okay so get this, to keep my Dutch nationality I have to get apostilled copies of the following; - my marriage cert from Connecticut - my wife's naturalisation certificate - my own naturalisation certificate To prove that I became British after she did. Or I lose it.

I am SO READY FOR THIS and have been for 8 years because I'm a legal professional and have just been fascinated by this insanely xenophobic steeplechase that I need my in-laws to help me with but IT'S NUTS. IT'S SO CRAZY.

That is unhinged! The German rule is more straightforward…if you got a second passport from a non EU country you loose your German one. Don’t know if that’s more or less xenophobic really…

How's that work with the UK now?

If you got a UK passport before brexit it should be fine, although I’ve yet to test that, but if it’s post-Brexit then you have to show a “continuing commitment” to Germany if you don’t want to loose your nationality…

A lot of people don't have a birth certificate with their current name on it. I'm guessing the "Protect our precious wimmin!" bigots haven't worked that out.

I do have my birth certificate, but don't carry it round with me. But if they want a feel of my pussy before I pee, then it'd be a bit weird, but I'm down for it.

It would be a civic duty to stand outside the toilets at one of the For Women Scotland meetings and demand to see their birth certificates. Some of them look very masculine to me and we wouldn't want to take any chances that some of them are just men in dresses...

As Jay Hulme points out, all his documents have him as male - including his birth certificate.

This is gonna be good. My first BC had one firstname and surname. I was adopted by my mum, given new BC w new firstname and a new surname. Mum met Dad, another new BC w a new surname. So that's THREE birth certs to my name, FOUR if I went for a GRC. Which one they want?
