I used to get so annoyed at the Mourning Doves when they would dominate my feeder. You’re too big! What are you doing in there? Then I learned a little about them, in particular that they lose 50-65% annually to predators in the wild. They can live decades but don’t. Knowledge means empathy.

The silence is quite eerie, isn't it? Then, the chirping and chattering commences once the coast is clear. The little birds chirp a collective, "Whew!"
